Obituary

Carlton Dewitt Carl McKettrick, Sr., age 62, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 in Parrish, FL. He was born February 24, 1953 in Augusta, GA to the late Robert L. McKettrick and Jimmie Eugenia Bates Bellamy. Carl has lived for the past 20 years in Arcadia, FL, moving to our area from Hernando, FL. Carl was of the Baptist faith. Eleven years ago Carl had a dream of building the Arcadia Stockyard. After careful thought and planning, the state-of-the-art livestock market had its first sale on September 14, 2005. In addition to being a co-owner of the Arcadia Stockyard, Carl was a member of the Livestock Marketing Association and a past president of the Florida Association of Livestock Markets. He served as the FALM Representative on the Florida Cattleman s Association Executive Committee. Carl was also the current President of the DeSoto County Cattleman s Association. He was an active member of the Arcadia Elks Club. Carl loved life, especially spending time with family and friends. He prided himself in being a grill master and volunteered to BBQ at many events. Being a huge outdoorsman, Carl enjoyed being in a boat fishing or scalloping. He was an avid hunter who enjoyed hunting deer and turkey. Working cattle was not only his livelihood but his passion. Carl is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Libby Turner McKettrick of Arcadia, FL., two children Carlton D. (Lacy) McKettrick, Jr. of Arcadia, FL. and Heidi (Patrick) Loebig of Summerfield, FL, two step children Stephen (Jamie) Heine of Arcadia, FL. and Krista (Robert) Browning of Sarasota, FL., three brothers Bobby (Cathy) McKettrick of Williston, FL, Guy (Linda) McKettrick of Floral City, FL and Burton Bellamy of Ocala, FL.; four sisters Daphne Rooks and Sybil Stokes both of Hernando, FL., Barbara (Ronnie) Renney of Homosassa, FL. and Beverly (Lamar) Rooks of Safford, AL; nine grandchildren Max, Riley and Molly McKettrick, Aubrey and Brady Loebig , Madelyn and Lilly Browning, Aubry and Wyatt Harrelson, fifteen nieces and nephews and twenty-seven great nieces and nephews. Carl was preceded in death by his parents and his step- father Burton R. Bellamy. A visitation of family and friends will be held Friday May 29, 2015 from 10:00am until 12:00pm at the First Baptist Church, 1006 N. Brevard Ave., Arcadia, FL. Funeral services will follow at 12:00pm at the church with Rev. Wayne Earnest of First Baptist Church of Fort Ogden officiating. Burial will be at Joshua Creek Cemetery, Arcadia.
