Wilbur E. Dees, age 79, passed away, Sunday, September 25, 2011 in Punta Gorda, FL. Wilbur was born December 8, 1931 in Muse, FL, moving to Arcadia as child with his parents. He retired from DeSoto Correctional Facility, where he served as Industries Program Manager. He served with the Fl National Guard. His unit was activated to participate in the Korean War. Wilbur enjoyed hunting, fishing, and other outdoors activities. He enjoyed farming and raising cattle. He and his wife, Valdia, was able to travel over all 48 states, many of them many times over. They visited old friends and made many new ones. They enjoyed many months together in their summer home in Sylva, NC. He was a member of the Arcadia Church of God. He served on the Financial Board for several years. He also served on the Maintenance Committee, assuring that the church was well maintained. Wilbur loved his family and loved spending quality time with them. Survivors are his son, Steve (Bonnie) Dees, Merritt Island, FL, one brother, C. J. (Sally) Deese, Jamestown, TN, three grandchildren, Brandon, Dees, Stephanie Dees, and Michael Dees, all of Merritt Island, FL. Wilbur is preceded in death by his beloved wife Valdia Dees, in 2009, a sister Betty (Dees) Lyons, and his parents, Cecil and Letha Dees. Visitation will be conducted from 6:00PM until 8:00PM, Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home chapel, 50 No. Hillsborough Avenue, Arcadia, Fl. Funeral services will be held at 3:00PM, September 29, 2011 at the Arcadia Church of God with Rev. Steve Griffin officiating, burial will follow in Joshua Creek Cemetery.
