Walter Weyman Whitlock, 86, of Winter Haven passed away peacefully into the hands of the Lord on September 8th, 2010. Weyman was born in Arcadia, FL on May 8th, 1924 to George and Lillian Whitlock. He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corp and served his country as a flight engineer during World War II. Along with four of his siblings, he was one of the Five Fighting Whitlock s in the war from Arcadia. His service in the military required that he be granted a special dispensation due to his being blind in one eye. He graduated from Tulane University after the war, and later earned a Masters degree from Florida State University. He worked as a vocational rehabilitation counselor for the State of Florida for many years. After retirement, he went back to work for several more years as a senior bag boy for Publix. His favorite pastimes included spending time with his family, fishing, and watching sports, especially any which involved his beloved University of Florida Fightin Gators. Wearing the Orange and Blue always pleased him. He coined many sayings that became known as Weymanisms to those who knew him well. He will forever be remembered as a man of tremendous integrity, honor, and humor. He was a lover of justice and knowledge, and always wanted answers to life s tough questions. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Anne Eppleman Whitlock; daughter Kay Whitlock Riddle (Doug) of Gainesville, FL and son Weyman Whitlock, Jr. (Annette) of Tampa, FL; grandchildren (to whom he was known as Pop ) Bert Ingley (Teresa) of Alachua, FL, Matthew Whitlock of Weare, NH, and Lindsey Whitlock of Chicago, IL; and great-grandchildren Donovan, Deven, Alaina, and Dayton Ingley of Alachua, FL; sisters (to whom he was known as brother ) Jan Smith of Pensacola, FL, Harriett Brown of St. Louis, MO, and Pat Sharkey (Ed) of Centralia, WA; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family; and his adorable Jack Russell terrier, Gator . He was preceded in death by his sisters Nina and Erma ( Bill ) and brothers Aurin, Sam, and Peck. A graveside service will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Arcadia, FL on Sunday, September 12, 2010 at 1:00PM.
