Walter E. Earnest age 90, passed away September 7, 2024, in Arcadia, Florida. He was born in Plant City, Florida on September 23, 1933, to Reverend E.T. Earnest and Carlie L. Barwick. He lived most of his life in Gardner, Florida. He retired after 34 years from FDOT.

He always had a large garden and loved sharing with family and neighbors. He truly had a green thumb. He was the best southern cook and famous for his fried cornbread. He loved being a cattleman and working the river property where many gatherings were held.  He was quite a prankster.

Walt is survived by his daughter Cheryl (John) Court, Brothers Gerald (Shirley) Earnest from Graceville, Florida, Donald Earnest from Arcadia, Florida, Clifton Earnest from Arcadia, Florida and sister-in-law Marcella Earnest from Arcadia, Florida. Five grandchildren Erica (James), Gail (Brannan), J.W. (Courtney), Krysta (Jarrett), and Jenna (Brice), and Eight grandchildren Jana Kate, Evan, Grayson, Josiah, Quinn, Beckett, Tinley, Steely, and numerous nieces and nephews who were more like his own kids.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife Thelma, daughter Jan, parents Reverend E.T. Earnest and Carlie L. Barwick, and brothers Edwin and Horace.

Visitation will be held Thursday, September 12, 2024, from 10-11am at Ponger Kays Grady Funeral Home in Arcadia, Services will follow at 11am, and burial will be a Gardner Baptist Church with Pastor Ellis Cross officiating.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Gardner Baptist Church.
