Virginia Alice Atkins, age 85, passed away May 26, 2011 in Arcadia, FL. Virginia was a lifelong resident of Arcadia, FL. She was born November 25, 1925 to the late Harry and Pauline Ford Ladd. Virginia s greatest love was for her family. She devoted her life attending to the needs of her husband and children. She enjoyed cooking and going to church. Virginia was a graduate of DeSoto County High School Class of 1945. She was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church, Arcadia, FL. Virginia is survived by her seven children; Allen Atkins, stepsons, Jerry (Carmen) Atkins, Atharay Ray Atkins, all of Arcadia, FL, and Charlie Atkins, Lake Wales, FL, three daughters; Carolyn Writesel, Columbus, OH, JoAnn (George) Burnham, Arcadia, FL, and Bettysue Baker, Lehigh Acres, FL, sixteen grandchildren, thirty six great grandchildren, and twenty seven great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 51 years, Atharay Atkins Sr. on March 23, 2011. Visitation will be held on Wednesday June 1, 2011 9:00AM until 10:30AM at the chapel of Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, 50 No. Hillsborough Ave., Arcadia, FL. Funeral services and burial will be conducted at the graveside at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Arcadia, FL at 11:00AM with Reverend Jerry Atkins officiating.
