Obituary

Vernita Mae Burns was born in Arcadia, Florida on October 29, 1944, to Zetti Mae Blandin-Martin and Willie Martin. She was a God-fearing woman and a devoted wife to her husband Willie Burns for 56 years. In her younger years she enjoyed fishing with her husband, always competing with him for fun.

She also enjoyed writing, especially poems and prayers to her family. She always put her family first and loved them fiercely. She was a very wise and intelligent woman with a quick wit. She was always ready to offer up sound advice and guidance to her family and friends. She enjoyed the holiday tradition of cooking every Thanksgiving and Christmas for her family. Everyone that knew her loved her and respected her for her honesty and nurturing nature.

Preceding Vernita in death are her siblings: Shirley Underwood, Pat Jones, and Robert Jones.

Vernita leaves cherished memories and her legacy will live on with her devoted and loving husband, Willie Burns; her loving children: Curlene Dixon, Bridgette Hall (Clarence Jr.), Alfonso Williams, Lorenzo Williams (Sharon), Darlene Williams, Vertrina Burns; her beloved grandchildren: Fredrick Tyler, Ricardo Hall, Lynisha Hall, Fontavia Williams, Vernita Williams, Alfonzo Williams 3rd, Adonis Williams, Roderick McMillion, Delshaun Williams, Cedrick McMillion, Lorenzo Williams Jr., Locresha Williams, Asia Williams, Chiquita Redden, Tanisha Spears (Brian), Shalexis Hogan, and Jaden Grant; her adored 13 great grandchildren; her siblings: Gussie Curry aka Peggy, Gloria Jean Devine (Leroy), Willette Martin, Nicole Martin, Jessie Jefferson, Ronnie Martin (Vivian), and Rodney Martin (Jackie); Also, Her God Children: Vera Elaine Arnold Williams, Tizonya Brumfield, Lewanda Polk, Anitra Jones Gordon and Matt Pringle and her close dear friends Betty Greene and Sandra Lewis.

There will be a Memorial Service on Friday, August 25, 2023, at 11:00AM in the Chapel of Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Homes, 50 N. Hillsborough Avenue, Arcadia, Florida.
