Obituary

Thomas F. "Tommy" Tyner passed from this earth to his Heavenly home on October 14, 2023, after a hard battle with cancer. He was 81 years old.
Tommy was born on April 8, 1942 in Arcadia, Florida to the late Dennis "Clare Boy" and Mabel Tyner. He grew up in Nocatee.  He graduated from Desoto High School in 1960. Following graduation, he briefly worked for Wynn Plumbing. Shortly after, he then began his career with the State of Florida Road and Bridge Department.
On July 1, 1961, he married the love of his life, Lois Wynn Tyner. The two met when she and her family moved to Arcadia in 1958. The Wynn family bought the house next door to the Tyner family in Nocatee. After meeting Lois for the first time, Tommy went home and told his mother he had met the girl he was going to marry.
Tommy was drafted into the United States Army in 1965 where he served with the 1st Calvery 82nd Airborne as an Aviation Electrical Equipment Maintenance Engineer. He served a one-year tour in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967. Following his Honorable discharge from the U.S. Army in 1967, he returned home to Lois in Arcadia and resumed his employment with the Florida Road and Bridge Department as a Project Engineer until his retirement in 2003. From 2003 until 2008, Tommy worked as a private consultant for Dynamic Consultants.
Tommy was a member of the local VFW, the American Legion, the Nocatee Old Timers, and the Desoto County Adult Athletic Association as Director of the softball league. Tommy was also a member of North Hillsborough Baptist Church.
Tommy had a deep love of the outdoors his entire life. He loved hunting, fishing, planting his yearly garden, playing and coaching softball, and barbequing for his family and friends. Ribs and swamp cabbage were his specialty. Tommy was an avid saltwater fisherman catching thousands of mullet and snook among others. He enjoyed his time spent in the back country of the Florida Everglades. Tommy especially enjoyed fishing in the Ten Thousand Islands, Boca Grande, and Peace River. He planted his vegetable garden every year for more than 60 years enjoying peas, greens, and other vegetables prepared by his wife.
Tommy Tyner is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lois Wynn Tyner; one sister, Margie (Harold) Bergens; sister-in–laws, Ellen Wynn Hutson and Lois Wynn; brother-in-law, Tommy (Bonnie) Wynn; seven nieces, Brandy (Robert) Varner, Charity (Pancho) Martinez, Trina (Gene) Coleman, Echo (Mike) Huckaby, Myranda (David) Brown, Sony (Todd) Hendrickson, Mylissa (Matt) Persons; two nephews, Glenn (Cindy) Wynn, and  Wade (Mandy) Skinner; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
