Terry S.
Herrera
February 5, 1961 – February 18, 2022
Terry S. Herrera, age 61 passed away on Friday, February 18, 2022, at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. She had lived in this area for 33 years. She was a graduate of Immokalee High School in 1978.
She earned her Bachelor of Music Education in 1985 from Florida State University, where she was a proud member of the Florida State University Marching Chiefs. Terry was an Elementary School Teacher, and her 31-year teaching career took her to West Palm, Immokalee, Nocatee, and finally Arcadia, Florida where she resided for 33 years. Her proudest achievement was running the Help One Student to Succeed (HOSTS) program at Memorial Elementary School, for which she received National recognition and met the governor.
The Organizations that she participated in were the Arcadia Moose Lodge and the Florida State University Marching Chiefs. She had many interests, but was a prolific crafter and home cook. She loved to sew, do home projects, try new recipes, and spoil her grandchildren. You could always find her in her kitchen domain or craft room, but rarely sitting down. She was a diehard FSU football fan, and relished the rivalry with the University of Florida, which was coincidentally her late sister's alma mater.
Terry will be remembered as a charitable soul and a loving grandmother, who sewed the names of her grandchildren into each piece that she made for them. She was a believer in Murphy's law. Her famous pizza squares will live on in infamy and in our arteries. She loved to chat with her cats and the wildlife outside her kitchen window, and her laugh could be heard by the neighbors.
She is survived by her husband, Hector Herrera, Sr. along with her brother Charles G. Swindle and her children, Victoria (Mercedes) Grimaldo of Lehigh Acres, Florida, Hector (Ana) Herrera, Jr. of Arcadia, Florida, Arianne (Devin) Lawrence of Wauchula, Florida, and Shane Paul (Eric Plapper) of Columbus, Ohio and Cats Jackie Brown and Benny Blanco.
Terry had six Grandchildren, Angelina Grimaldo, Isaac Grimaldo, Liliana Herrera, Daniella Grimaldo, Morgan Lawrence, and Sage Lawrence.
She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Charles Glenn Swindle and Jean P. Swindle and her sister Dale S. Berg.
