Sidney Johnson Sutphin Jr., age 82, passed away April 5, 2011. Sidney was born April 26, 1928 in Prestonsburg, KY. He moved to Arcadia, FL seven months ago from Lexington, KY. He retired as a claims adjuster in the insurance industry. Siidney had a compassion for helping others community, involving himself in collection and distribution of food and other staples for the Hope Center in Lexington. KY. Sidney assisted in arrange wiith his sunday school class group Christmas parties for the underprivileged children in his communityl. He was a volunteer for Hospice . Sidney was a veteran of the Korean War 1951 to 1953, serving with the U. S. Army, attaining the rate of Sergeant First Class & a disabled vet.. He enjoyed golfing, gardening, and woodworking. Sidney was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Centenary Methodist Church, Lexington, KY. Above all Sidney loved his family & the UK Kentucky Wildcats. Survivors are is beloved wife of sixty years, Mattie B. Sutphin, Arcadia, FL, a son Jon Sidney Sutphin & his partner Linda Clouse Arcadia, FL; one sister; Beulah Sutphin, Cincinnati, OH, two grandchildren; Granddaughter Lavinia Lee R. Sutphin White & her husband Christopher White,one great grandson; Aiden Densil White; Grandson-Densil Gaston Sutphin and all of Arcadia, FL. Sidney is preceded in death by his parents; Sidney J. Sutphin Sr. and Willia Belle Meador Sutphin and three siblings, Bernice Sutphin, Eva Price, and Laura Sutphin A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held in KY at a later date.
