Sidney L. Albritton passed away Thursday March 14, 2024 in Arcadia, Florida. He was born in Lily, Florida on March 9, 1936 to Albert and Zola Albritton. He was a lifelong Florida resident. He attended First Christian Church in Arcadia.
Sidney is survived by his wife Gladys Cline Albritton, daughter Cathy (Vernon) Edwards, brother Carl Albritton, sister Juanita Lewis, and three grandchildren Cole, Matt and Megan, along with five great grandchildren Graci, Kalli, Jaxon, Amaya and Riley, as well as many neices and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, son James "Jim" Albritton, brothers Murray, Kylen and Phillip Albritton and sisters Weida Revels, Hilda Roberts and Irene Turner.
After retiring from 30+ years with the state of Florida, he turned to his dream of building homes and built or renovated dozens of houses in DeSoto county for the next 26 years. He finished his last in 2009 at the age of 73.
He enjoyed telling stories of his youth, his siblings & his parents - adventures, accomplishments & tribulations. He cherished his wife and family. He was a loyal friend.
He loved his church and treasured his faith. He knew the Bible like the back of his hand. He was a Christian.
He liked to fish, hunt and cook on the grill. He was a crossword puzzle connoisseur. He always had a pocket knife in his pant pocket & kept a personal diary of sorts on page after page in steno pads. He liked a good buffet restaurant and banana pudding.
He boasted that he had never spent a night in the hospital & he died the way he wanted - in his sleep in his recliner.
Funeral services will be March 21, 2024 at 11 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Arcadia with Dave Woodrum officiating. Interment will follow at Joshua Creek Cemetery.
