Shirley Mae Fort Turner was born on December 20, 1937, to Malcome and Alma (Barnwell) Fort in Arcadia, Florida. She entered the gates of Heaven on October 16, 2022.
Shirley grew up in Ft. Ogden, Florida until her marriage to Philip Wayne Turner on March 16, 1958. Philip and Shirley made their home in Arcadia and welcomed four children. Libby Gail Turner Mckettrick, John Henry (Margie) Turner III, Philip Wayne (Amy) Turner Jr., and Malcome William (Sherrie) Turner, who all live in Arcadia.
Shirley was an exceptional, nurturing, and selfless mama that taught by example. She was a loving Meme to eight grandchildren: Krista (Robert) Browning, Stephen (Jamie) Heine, John (Nicole) Turner IV, Randall Turner, Brad (Erika) Turner, Philip Turner III (Amanda), Bailey Turner (Shelby), and Katie Turner. Shirley was also an amazing Meme to her great grandchildren; Madelyn and Lilly Browning, Jhet Turner, Huk, Hazlee, and Harvee Turner, Parker Turner, Aubry and Wyatt Harrelson, and Reagan Deriso,
Shirley's greatest blessing was her loving family. She made every birthday, holiday, and gathering ever so special. Shirley was the perfect example of a Christian woman with a special gift of compassion for others. She was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church of Fort Ogden.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 64 years, her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sister-in-law Berniece Fort and an abundance of friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Freddie Fort.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Baptist Church of Fort Ogden at P.O. Box 157 Ft. Ogden, FL 34267.
There will be a visitation at Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Homes Arcadia at 50 N. Hillsborough Avenue, on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, from 5:00PM – 7:00PM.
The funeral will be held at the First Baptist Church of Fort Ogden on Thursday, October 20 at 11:00AM with Pastor Wayne Earnest officiating.
Interment will follow at Joshua Creek Cemetery.
