Sandra Kay
Whitaker-Olin
November 23, 1942 – November 17, 2021
Sandra Kay Whitaker-Olin, 78, of Arcadia, Florida passed away November 17, 2021 at the Sarasota Memorial Hospital. She was born November 23, 1942 in Elmhurst, Illinois to Ronald and Elizabeth Sauer. Sandy was a 1960 graduate of Aurora High School in Aurora, Ohio and attended Kent State. She worked as a Medical Office Manager at several medical facilities before retiring in 2006 and moving to Arcadia 11 years ago.
Sandy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother. She was an excellent equestrian, bridge player and civic community leader. She will be remembered as an empathetic, loving, adventurous, active, a take charge, get it done person. She was a conscientious, understanding and intelligent lady. Sandy was very active in the communities in which she lived. She was a member of the Rotary Club of Arcadia, a choir member of her northern church, a member of the First Baptist Church of Arcadia, a member of the DeSoto County Education Foundation and was a charter member of the Arcadia Centennial Lions Club. Things Sandy enjoyed; horses, dogs, children, playing mahjong and traveling.
If one had to choose the "essence" of Sandy, we would say, "She Served". Sandy's service to her family started at a very young age when her mother contracted a painful, protracted, and eventually fatal cancer. She served her whole life. Her children were lifelong beneficiaries. That love and service extended beyond her family, her consistent loving concern for children surfaced in many ways at many places throughout her life. Health and financial problems limited her reach at times, but the empathy, the helpful partner, the caring character were always present.
The Rotary motto "Service above Self" illustrates why she was active locally in that civic service club. She always believed in Rotary's Four Way Test even before she could quote it.
The Four-Way Test, of the things we think, say or do;
She is survived by her husband, John Olin of Arcadia, FL; children, Jay (Terri) Whitaker of Cincinnati, OH, Brian (Teresa) Whitaker of West Chester, OH, Arthur (Carrie) Whitaker of Avon, OH, Emily (Geoff) van de Merwe of Simpsonville, SC and Christopher (Tiffany) Olin of Twinsburg, OH; grandchildren, Christina Whitaker, Nick Whitaker, Harrison Freeman, Hayley van de Merwe, Luke van de Merwe, Heather Engstrom, Charles Tripp, Steven Tripp, Elizabeth Jordan and Katie Adams; six great grandchildren, brothers, Dick Sauer of Fountain Hills, AZ, Tim Sauer of Scottsdale, AZ and Hank Sauer of San Francisco, CA as well as 16 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her first husband, Jack Whitaker and her brother Alan Sauer.
