Obituary

Ruth Weaver Yama, age 91, passed away Friday, December 4, 2009 in Arcadia. She was born February 18, 1918 in Six Mile Run, PA. Ruth was a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church, Arcadia. Ruth graduated from Broad Top High School, PA and later became a RN. She married John Charles Yama a hometown boy, when he returned from WWII in 1947. Ruth and John relocated to Arcadia, FL. in 1948 where they raised their two girls. Ruth continued her career in nursing for Dr. Kirkpatrick, G.P. Wood, Arcadia General Hospital and DeSoto Co. Health Dept. until she retired. Ruth enjoyed reading, baking homemade pies and cakes and cooking delicious meals for her family and friends. Ruth cared for her community, church and family with a passion and dedication that was strong to the end of her days. She was a shining example of true love and faith. Her grace, kind spirit and loving ways will be forever missed. She is survived by two daughters, Susan E. Head and Nancy E. Turner, both of Arcadia, Fl., three grandchildren, John Arndt, Lindsay Head (Donnie) Knoche, and Jarrod Head, her great-granddaughter Meagan Arndt and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, William and Amanda Weaver and nine siblings. Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 8, 2009 from 1:00PM until 2:00PM in the fellowship hall of the First Presbyterian Church of Arcadia, 209 W. Hickory St., Arcadia Funeral Services will follow the visitation of friends at 2:00PM in the church sanctuary with Dr. Ted Land officiating. Interment will be private at Oak Ridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family request donations in Ruth s name be made to the First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 1236, Arcadia, FL. 34265.
