Obituary

Rev. Roy Howard Hancock Sr., age 89, of Wauchula, FL, passed away  at his home with his family at his bedside,on Sunday, May 15, 2022.  Roy was born July 1, 1932 in Rochelle County, GA, to Ruben Jackson and Mattie Clara Davis Hancock. He retired from the United States Marine Corp after 20 years of  Honorable service.  Upon completion of his military career, he answered his Lord's  calling into the ministry. He attended the Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute in Hendersonville, NC.

Roy began serving churches in the North Carolina area, the first being, Galilee Missionary Baptist, then he served the First Baptist Church of Sneads Ferry, NC, then he moved to Gardner, FL, serving the Gardner community for a period of time. He served in the Oak Park Baptist Church in Ft. Meade, FL He moved to Wauchula, FL where he served the Wauchula Hills Baptist Church.  He went to Lake Placid, FL for awhile serving at the Faith Baptist Church.  He returned to Oak Park in Ft. Meade  serving that community.  Rev. Roy served as Interim Pastor for Lake Dale Baptist Church in Bowling Green, FL and numerous others in the area.

He is survived by his daughter Linda (Wayne) Ricci; his brother Wayne Hancock; sister Ann (Rex) Wyckoff; five grandchildren, Michelle, Julia, Jonathan, Joshua, and Lacey.  He also has four great grandchildren, Faith, Sophia, Bentley, and Grayson. and may nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife Vivian in 2021, his son Roy Hancock Jr., 1999, his father Ruben Jackson and mother Mattie Clara Davis Hancock, his brothers, Billy, Johnny and Bobby, and his sisters Edith Kirby, Reba McCoy, and Margie Blackburn.

Visitation will be conducted on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, from 10:00AM till 11:00AM.  at the Lake Dale Baptist Church, Bowling Green, FL.  Funeral service will begin at 11:00AM with Rev. Mike Davis officiating.  Burial will be in the Bowling Green City Cemetery, with the Hardee Honor Guard to render military Honors at the graveside.
