Obituary

Roxie Irene Bentley ("Your True Story Teller"), Of Wauchula, passed from this life to her eternal home with Jesus n Saturday, June 11, 2022, at Advent Health Lake Wales, under the care of VITAS Hope Hospice.

Roxie was born on March 12, 1927, in Tampa, Florida, the daughter of Caswell B. Bentley Sr. and Olive Bernice (nee Jeffrey) Bentley.

Roxie graduated from Florida Southern College, Lakeland, Florida, and Western Carolina university, Cullowhee, N.C.  She taught second grade in Zolfo Springs more than 25 years and was instrumental in setting up the program for exceptional children in Hardee, Desoto and Highlands counties.  Roxie loved teaching and hundreds of children were blessed to have her as their teacher.

Roxie was a devout Methodist and was active in the First united Methodist Church of Wauchula, singing in the choir, teaching the Good Samaritan Sunday School class, and a member of the Wednesday Musicale.

Roxie was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma (Alpha Gamma Chapter) since 1965 and served as chaplain for more than 20 years.  She was also a member of Eastern Star Chapter 42 Wauchula.  Her love of animals led her to working in Henderson's Animal Clinic.

Roxie was survived by her siblings, Jack Bentley (Valerie), of Lakeland, Florida, Levic Bentley (Judy), of Cape Coral, Florida, Patty Harner (Dave), of Winter Haven, Florida, David Bentley, of San Francisco, California, Polly Johnson (Pastor Dickie, Deceased), of Covington, Georgia and Doyle Spears Jr. (Lynne), of Atlanta, Georgia, who Roxie considered Family; along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

In addition to her parents, Roxie was preceded in death by her brother, Caswell B. Bentley Jr., and sister, Mae B. Woodard.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Advent Health Wauchula and Sebring, Tampa General Hospital, Advent Health Lake Wales, VITAS Home Health, her First United Methodist Church family, and the many friends who cared deeply for Roxie, For their living and compassionate care.

Viewing will be on Monday, June 20, 2022 from 10:00am - 11:00am at First United Methodist Church of Wauchula.  Funeral service will follow at 11:00am at the church with Pastor Josh Laden officiating.  Internment at Wauchula Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorial contributions to First United Methodist Church of Wauchula or Hardee Animal Rescue Team.
