Ronald G. Overcash, aged 85, passed away peacefully on April 22nd,
2026 at the Tidewell Hospice House of Arcadia, Florida, following a brief illness.
He was born June 26th, 1940, in Dunedin, Florida, the son of the late
Kenneth Lee and Faye Shaw Overcash.
"Dr. O" as he was affectionally known, was a member of the Arcadia
community for over 50 years, providing service as the town's beloved veterinarian until his retirement.
A man of great faith, he was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Arcadia, teaching Sunday School in every town in which he lived and was an avid student of the Bible. Prior to moving to Arcadia in 1974, he played collegiate baseball at the University of Florida where he twice earned All-SEC honors as the Gator's first baseman before going on to play professional baseball for the Kansas City A's (before the team moved to Oakland). Following his professional baseball career, he graduated from
Auburn University with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine and then went on to earn a PhD in Comparative Pathology at the University of Alabama-Birmingham, serving as an associate professor on the University of Alabama teaching staff.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Sue Roberts Overcash,
daughter Kelly Sue Overcash of St. Petersburg, FL, son, Brent Overcash (Victoria Gerken) of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and his two grandsons Cole Overcash (Sandie Overcash) and Graham Overcash. He leaves behind one great-grandchild, Cole and Sandie's son, Theodore Cole (Teddy). Ron is also survived by his younger sister, Marsha Johnson.
Services will be held Saturday, May 16th, 2026 at First Presbyterian Church of Arcadia. Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. with services to immediately follow at 11:00a.m. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to Billy Graham Evangelistic Association in Ronald's honor.
