October 31, 1946 – November 18, 2023
Ronald Phillip Neads of Arcadia, FL went home to be with his Lord and savior on November 18, 2023 at the age of 77. Ronald passed peacefully at his and Debra's home after a courageous fight with Parkinson's disease for 15 years and heart disease for 20 years. Ronald was a loving husband, father, papa, avid hunter and fisherman. Ronald was not a cowboy by trade but was a cowboy at heart.
Ronald is survived by his wife Debra Neads, one daughter Cindy Neads, one son Wayne Neads, and daughter- in- law Karen Neads and Gary Traylor. Grandchildren Kyle (Ashton) Neads, Shane Neads, David (Jeileem) Neads, Natalie (Nathan) Neads, and Kayden Neads. Great grandchildren Cheyenne, Jeff, Asher, Kinsey, and Onyx. Additionally, caretaker Roxann Cross, siblings Donna Hurst and Daniel Neads.
Ronald is preceded in death by his son Shane Neads, Parents Donald and Phyllis Neads, and granddaughter Katie Grace.
Ronald has been a lifelong member of Desoto County, where he made his mark in many people's lives. He is a retired first sergeant of the Florida Army National Guard after 33 years of service. Ronald retired Department of Corrections after 25 years of service. After retiring from the FL Dept of Corrections and Army Ronald became the JROTC instructor at Desoto County High School. Then Ronald went on to be County Commissioner of Desoto County where he fully enjoyed serving his community. Ronald then furthered his career with Weiler Engineering of Punta Gorda before retiring. His passion was caring for his cattle at home where he enjoyed taking his family out to check cows.
Ronald belonged to civic organizations where he enjoyed serving and helping his community. He was a lifetime member of the Arcadia Elks Lodge where he served 2 terms as an exalted ruler, Moose and Moose legion, Amvets, American Legion, and Arcadia Rodeo Association where he served as a director for many years until his health began to fail and he then became an honorary director.
Ronald will be missed by all of those whose life he touched. Please at this time keep his family in your thought and prayers.
A visitation of family and friends will be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 from 6:00-8:00pm at the chapel of Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, 50 N. Hillsborough Ave., Arcadia, FL.34266
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at 11:00am at the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Joshua Creek Cemetery with full military honors presented.
