Robert E. Jennings, 77 of Arcadia, formerly of Southampton, L.I., N.Y. died on January 10, 2008. He was born at Southampton, L.I, N.Y. on January 01, 1931, into an old Suffolk County family, the son of Robert R. and Mildred (Squires) Jennings. He enlisted in the Navy in 1948 and was a combat veteran of the Korean War, serving in the destroyer USS Moore. Mr. Jennings attended university on the G.I. Bill and received his doctorate in 1966 from the State University of New York, Albany. For three years, Dr. Jennings was Assistant to the Provost, State University Central Administration. He was awarded a year s Fellowship at the U.S. Office of Education, Washington, in 1967 and served on the staff of the Associate Commissioner for Higher Education. The following year he joined the faculty of the State University of New York at Buffalo as Assistant Dean, Faculty of Education. As a faculty member, he specialized in policy formulation and analysis and was author or co-author of five books. In the late 1970 s Dr. Jennings taught in England for two years at Keele University and later at Sheffield. He retired as professor in 1987. After retirement, he taught at South Florida Community College for several years. Dr. Jennings is survived by his daughter, Nancy (Larry) Phillips , three grandchildren and one great grandchild, his son, Richard and a foster grandson, Steven Shear. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Audrey. Dr. Jennings is to be intered at the National Cemetery, Calverton, N.Y.. No local services are planed.
