Robert Alan Avant passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at the age of 69. He was born in Columbia, South Carolina on October 19, 1954, to William Robert Avant and Norma Goolsby. He lived in Arcadia for 68 years, graduated from the Class of 1972 at Desoto County High School. Robert worked as a heavy equipment operator and took pride in his role in building homes and businesses across Desoto and Charlotte County. His greatest accomplishment was his family. He enjoyed reading, fishing and spending time outdoors.

His loving family will remember him as a compassionate, loving, generous man of faith with a great sense of humor. He will be missed by all.

He is survived by his spouse Lorna Stalcup Avant, his children Tim Avant from Arcadia, Chrissy Avant from Arcadia, Amy Edmonson from Tampa, and Robbie Avant from Arcadia. Sisters Janice Avant, Jeanne Mackey (David), and Joann Byrd (Jim), Stepdaughter Rebecca Disabatino (Anthony) from Arcadia, Stepson Rory Stalcup from Arcadia. Grandchildren Zachary Newman, Jacob Newman, Dylan Castro, Danielle Castro, Emily Avant, Macy Beck, Titan Miller, Luca Disabatino, Maverick Disabatino, Haiden Stalcup, Rylan Stalcup and one great grandchild Lennox Avant, along with nieces and nephews Michael Cross, Aaron Yarborough, and Jessica Farmer.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents Bob and Norma Avant, and Grandparents Henry C. and Ethel B. Avant.

A Celebration of life will be held on August 3, 2024, from 2-3pm at Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home in Arcadia with a service following with Pastor Ellis Cross officiating.
