Richard E. Montgomery, age 78, of Arcadia, Florida, passed away peacefully at his home on May 22, 2026. Born in Seymour, Indiana, in 1947, Richard later relocated to Bradenton, Florida, before settling in Arcadia in 1988 with his wife and children. He resided there for 38 years, during which time he contributed to the local community through his work in construction until his retirement.
A dedicated member of North Hillsborough Baptist Church, Richard found joy in playing the drums. His retirement years were marked by a deep passion for carpentry and craftsmanship, particularly in the creation of birdhouses. Additionally, Richard nurtured a strong enthusiasm for astronomy, sharing his knowledge by teaching children at the Community Center of Port Charlotte, Florida. He also delighted in family camping trips, where he often brought his telescope to offer others the opportunity to explore the night sky. He also dabbled in fishing and genuinely enjoyed the outdoors.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra J. Bradley Montgomery. He is survived by his children, David Montgomery of Arcadia, Florida, and Deborah Montgomery of Fitzgerald, Georgia, as well as his three sisters, Regina, Nannette, and Nancy.
Richard will be remembered for his dedication to family, community, and his various passions that enriched the lives of those around him.
