Richard John McHargue Sr. passed away on March 10, 2023 at DeSoto Health and Rehab. John was born on May 22 ^nd 1957 in Lee County, Florida to Richard B. and Carlotta McHargue.

John graduated in 1975 from Charlotte County High School and worked as correctional officer for the State of Florida for 35 years.

John enjoyed hunting, fishing and raising animals. He also loved to grow a big garden and share the bounty with many folks. He was generous and always ready to lend a helping hand. He had a special place in his heart for the Gator Wilderness Camp School.

John was an active member and elder at Gardner Baptist Church in Gardner, Florida.

John is survived by his wife Kathie, sons; Richard Jr. (Lynn) and Jake (Caitlin) McHargue, daughters; Joni and Brandy. He is survived by 11 grandchildren and leaves behind two furry and faithful companions, Bubba and Bird.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Richard B. and Carlotta McHargue.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday March 14 ^th 2023 from 10-11 am at Gardner Baptist Church 8660 U.S. Hwy. 17 Gardner, FL where a funeral service will start at 11am. Interment to follow in the church cemetery Pastors Greg Kanagy and Jay Cook officiating. In lieu of flowers the family suggest contributions be made to the Gator Wilderness Camp School 44930 Farabee Rd. Punta Gorda, FL. 33982. Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home Arcadia, FL is entrusted with the arrangements.
