Richard Dick K. Kelly, age 61, passed away Friday, January 9, 2009 in Arcadia. He was born November 30, 1947 in Arcadia, Florida. He was currently residing in Sarasota. Dick was a 5th generation member of the Kelly Family born in the State of Florida and a 3rd generation of Desoto County. The cattle industry had been a family tradition for Dick starting with his family s involvement with the Arcadia State Livestock Market. He worked with his grandfather, John D. Kelly and his father, Patrick D. Kelly as a young boy and continued to work in the marketing industry during his lifetime. This lead to his involvement in many associations s affiliated with ranching and marketing of cattle. He was an active member of the Desoto County, Sarasota County, Florida, and National Cattlemen s Associations, serving as the State Director for the Sarasota County District. He was also the host of the Young Cattlemen s Assn. Dick enjoyed volunteering with the 4-H and FFA Chapters helping promote agriculture to younger generations. In most recent years, he enjoyed helping his granddaughters with their 4-H projects. During his youth, he was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Arcadia, where in Sunday school; he met his wife of almost 39 years, Judy. He was currently a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sarasota. Dick served our country in the US Army during the Vietnam War and later retired from the GTE Telephone Company. He worked part-time at the Arcadia Stockyard and for Phil Turner Farms. He also helped his wife Judy and family to care for and manage the Dishong s Diamond D Ranch in Arcadia. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, scuba diving, cooking for family and friends, and traveling to their home in Franklin, NC whenever possible. He is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart Judith Judy Dishong Kelly of Sarasota, FL, his daughter Jennifer K., son-in-law Robby Armstrong of Sarasota, Fl., three granddaughters, Kaitlyn, Leigh, and Robbi Lyn Armstrong of Sarasota, Fl, his mother, Kay L. Kelly of Arcadia, Fl., his sister Kathy K. and husband Frank Tanner of Arcadia, Fl., two sister and brother in laws Dianne D. and Frank Hagan of Sarasota, Fl and Jane D. and Grayson Rayborn of Hattiesburg, MS and many friends from around the state. Dick was preceded in death by his father Patrick D. Kelly. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Monday January 12, 2009 at the chapel of Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, 50 N. Hillsborough Ave., Arcadia, Fl. Funeral services will be at 2:00PM, Tuesday, January 13, 2009 graveside at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Arcadia, Fl. with Rev. Ted Land and Rev. Roger Kunkle officiating.
