R A Head 83 of Arcadia passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, July 23, 2008. He was born August 21, 1924 in Jasper, FL and moved to Arcadia when he was ten years old. He was involved in many businesses, pulpwood, farming, mobile home sales, underground utilities, and he originated trash pick up in DeSoto County. He was a member of the Elks, Moose, American Legion, Am-Vets and attended Pine Level United Methodist Church. As a member of the U.S. Navy in WWII he served in the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. He is survived by his beloved wife Darlene Ashton Head; son John Boo (Linda) Head of Ruskin, FL, daughter Connie (Rowdy) Bateman of Arcadia, Bobbi (Steve) Bates of Arcadia, grand children, Walt Bates, Cason Bateman, Austin Bateman, Dakota Head, Sierra Head, Noah Head, Brittany Head; Richard Bird of Huston, TX, Chris (Suzanne) Bird of Gainesville, FL, Karen (Fred) Teston of Lakeland, FL, Susan Jacoby of Lakeland, FL, Aubry Hall of Indianapolis, IN and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by, first wife MaryLou Reynolds Head, son Robert Head, grandson Quinton Bates, brother Russell Head, sister Eula Dunn, sister Deatha Tinsley, and nephew Darrell Head. In lieu of flower donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice Graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM Oak Ridge Cemetery. A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 26, 2008 at Pine Level Methodist Church. At the conclusion on the service a luncheon will be held at the church.
