Pattie Carol
Hunt
May 20, 1935 – December 17, 2022
Pattie Carol Hunt was born in Lumberton, North Carolina, to Ralph and Ethel Inman.
She is the middle sister to Shirley Ammons and Linda McLester. The three girls were raised at Barium Springs Home For Children. She always spoke fondly of her years there and attended the annual "Homecoming" celebration every year until her health would not allow it. She graduated Summa Cum Laude and Salutatorian of her class. Her athletic accomplishments included her position as point guard on the basketball team, and her skill at acrobatics.
After graduation, she trained to be an x-ray technician in Charlotte, North Carolina. After some years of working in the field, she joined Eastern Airlines as a flight attendant. She moved to Miami, and married Daniel Hunt. They had three children. He brought four children to the marriage, and a blended family was created. After his untimely death, she was single for many years until she met the love of her life, Gaines Owen. They were together for 32 years and only separated by her passing.
She was heavily involved and president of the NAMI (National Alliance For The Mentally Ill) both in West Palm Beach and St. Augustine and made a significant impact with local officials in her mission to help the under-served community.
Pattie had many talents, one of her most notable was the authorship of numerous op-ed's and letters to the editor. She was a fierce defender of the underdog and wrote pointed missives about politics and issues that were close to her heart. She was a member of the League of Women Voters, a feminist, and a proud member of the Democratic Party.
She lived life on her own terms and met every challenge with enthusiasm, grit and resolve. Pattie never met a stranger, and her warm and caring spirit lives on in her loved ones and all who knew her.
She is predeceased by her son, Albert Brian Hunt; her husband, Daniel Forsythe Hunt; and her stepson, James Rodney Hunt. She is survived by her daughter, Danette Dieffenbach; her son, David Hunt; her two sisters, Shirley Ammons, and Linda McLester; two stepdaughters, Laura Hyams, and Mary Jane Hunt; her stepson, Daniel Hunt Jr.; her partner, Gaines Owen; and her amazing caretaker and friend, Tina Schel, who lovingly cared for her in her final years.
