Obituary

Nell Ziglar Palmer, age 93, of Arcadia, Fl. passed away, February 8, 2009 in Arcadia. Nell was born August 11, 1915 in Comer, Al. and had lived in Arcadia since 1938, moving here from Dothan, Al. Nell was a Registered Nurse, receiving her nursing degree in 1939. Nell began her nursing career working with Arcadia General Hospital and relocated with the new DeSoto Memorial Hospital located at No. Brevard Ave. She worked in the surgical department, the emergency room, pediatrics, geriatrics,maternity, and in the later phase of her career, working for DeSoto Manor Nursing Home (DeSoto Health and Rehab.), helping residents to adjust to nursing home living., she retired from DeSoto Memorial Hospital in 1980 Nell was the recipient the Humanitarian Award presented by the DeSoto Chamber of Commerce in 1987. She loved to crochet, saying it was a good way to relieve stress. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Arcadia and frequently attended Mt Ephriam Baptist Church, in the Owens community. Nell is survived by a daughter, Kaye (William) Wilkinson, Marble, NC, grand daughter, D.Anne (John) Turner Chandler, Arcadia, Fl. and grandson Robert (Rosie) Tuner, Mims, Fl. four great grandchildren. two sister-in-laws, Dorothy Gary, Morris, Ga. and Louise Gary, Greenville, Al. Nell leaves numerous nieces and nephews to mourn her passing. Nell is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raymond Palmer in 1979 and beloved husband James E. Ziglar in 1952 Visitation will be held from 6:00PM until 8:00PM Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009 from Ponger-Kays-Grady Chapel, 50 No. Hillsborough Ave., Arcadia, Fl. Funeral services will be at 11:00AM, Friday, Feb. 13, 2009 from First Baptist Church of Arcadia with Rev. Richard Englert and Rev. Jerry Waters officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Angela McAuley, American Cancer Society, Florida Division, 3709 W. Jetton Avenue, Tampa, Fl. 33629 or the charity of their choice.
