Obituary

DeSoto County has lost another of its native sons. Neill Tyree, 67, born in Arcadia, FL. on February 28, 1943 passed away on June 13, 2010 in Port Charlotte, FL. Neill was a cattleman, rancher and farmer. Neill was a descendent of the DeSoto County pioneer families of Benjamin Franklin Welles and Wright Carlton. His father s grandparents, Lloyd and Estelle Tyree of DeLand, FL., owned and operated dry good stores in central Florida. He took great pride in his cultural heritage. Neill will long be remembered for his numerous agricultural undertakings. He graduated from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Ga. He served as a branch manager for Long Manufacturing Company in Tifton and represented the firm in the Caribbean helping several countries develop and perfect their farm equipment inventories. Later he owned and operated the DeSoto Equipment Corporation in Desoto County. In conjunction with this, he managed his own small cattle operation and citrus grove. In 1990 Neill became affiliated with Heritage Farms managing their poultry farms and groves. Neill was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He belonged to the DeSoto Farm Bureau. Neill was an avid outdoor s man who loved to fish, hunt, and explore nature. He took great pride in producing small vegetable crops and in yard landscaping after retirement. This devoted husband and father is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sherry Perdue Tyree, daughter, Marty Lynn Tyree, of Arcadia, son Eric Neill Tyree and wife Abby and grandson Charles Wright Tyree of Clewiston, FL., and two sisters, Jane T. Adams and Cheryl Ann Wehnke, both of Arcadia. Neill also leaves a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends. Visitation will be held June 18, 2010 from 11:00AM until 12:00Noon from the chapel of Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, 50 N. Hillsborough Avenue, Arcadia, Fl. Funeral services will be at 12:00Noon, June 18, 2010 at the funeral home chapel with Reverend Richard Englert officiating. Burial will be in Joshua Creek Cemetery, Arcadia, Fl.
