Maryland "Jodi" Marie Staton, 80, of Wauchula, passed away peacefully at her home Saturday morning August 20, 2022. She was born March 13, 1942, in Jasper, Alabama to Rufus and Ocie Edwards moving to Hardee County as a young girl. She was Christian by faith and a member of Bowling Green Church of God. Maryland and her husband Horace owned their own business, Staton Fruit and Ladder Works where they packed, sold, and shipped fruit and made cypress ladders for many years.

Maryland loved her family and was an avid "Aggravation" game player. She loved to watch old movies and old tv shows like Gunsmoke and Wagon Train. She also loved to watch the Gospel Music channel. She was a great mom, grandma, and mema. She loved her family, and she was well loved in return. She will be missed tremendously.

Maryland was preceded in death by her husband Horace Staton, parents Rufus and Ocie Edwards, stepmother Beatrice Edwards, son Royce Staton, daughter Linda Griffis, grandsons Walter Staton, Royce Allen Staton, and Brian Staton, son-in-law William "Billy" Price Jr, daughter-in-law Lori Staton, sisters Jean Ayers, Pearlene Colburn, Jeanette Plunkett, Earlene Colburn, and brother Hershel Edwards.

Maryland is survived by her children Lesa Grimsley (Gary), Sherry Grimsley (Jerry), Selina Price, Jennifer Cunningham (Anthony), Sandra Baggett (Dan), Arnold Staton, Alan Staton (Beth), and Pat Miller (Chris) with 33 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, 16 great - great grandchildren, her brother-in-law Thurman Plunkett and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Ponger - Kays Grady Funeral Home on Thursday, August 25, 2022, with visitation starting at 10:00 am, funeral service at 11:00 am with burial to follow at Wauchula Cemetery.
