Marion Kathryn Bates, age 83 passed away Tuesday, December 14, 2010 in Arcadia. She was born February 15, 1927 in Gillette, FL. moving to Arcadia 62 years ago. Kathryn was of the Baptist faith and a member of First Baptist Church of Arcadia. Kathryn worked as a dispatcher for 15 years for Desoto County Sheriff s office. Kathryn lived for her family; she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also volunteered at Desoto Memorial Hospital as a Pink Lady. Kathryn liked a game of bridge with her friends, and playing the piano for guests. She is survived by two sons, Walter Steve (Bobbi) Bates and Jim (Kim) Bates both of Arcadia, FL; three grandchildren Walt Bates, James Bates and Jobie Bates of Arcadia. She was preceded in death by her spouse W.A. Stump Bates, her parent s Jesse and Era Berta Walker Lingo, brother Sam Miley, sister Eurajay Miley and grandson Quinton Bates. A visitation will be held Friday, December 17, 2010 from 1:00PM until 2:00PM at the chapel of Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, 50 N. Hillsborough Ave., Arcadia. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 2:00PM at the chapel with Rev. Ken Galloway of New Day Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
