Madolyn Murphy
Smith
January 18, 1918 – May 12, 2023
Madolyn Murphy Smith was reunited with the love of her life, Hugh, on the morning of May 12, 2023. She was born Madolyn Fussell on January 18, 1918 to Summer and Zilla Fussell.
She married Hugh Morgan Smith in 1938 and their journey took them to Miami where he worked as a machinist before opening his own business. She supported him in his business and performed all the administrative duties including keeping all the records. Madolyn and Hugh were instrumental in helping several individuals from Arcadia get a career started in the Miami area by opening up their home to them while pursuing their careers. They were blessed with a son in 1954, whom they adopted, and they spent years adventuring to their property in the Florida Everglades hunting and enjoying the wildlife and wild orchids.
She enjoyed gardening and growing her roses and when she moved back to Arcadia, she joined the Arcadia Garden Club and the Arcadia Woman's club. She was a strong Christian woman and was very active in her church when she was able with the children's ministries and the women's ministries.
She leaves to cherish her memory, one son, Gregory (Susan) Smith, one niece, Kay (Willie) Croy and several great nephews and one great niece. She was preceeded in death by her husband, Hugh, her parents, Summer & Zilla Fussell and her brother, S. Bertell Fussell.
In lieu of flowers, please contribute to One More Child (Florida Baptist's Childrens Home), 1015 Sikes Blvd, Lakeland, Florida 33815 because adoption was near and dear to her heart, or the Arcadia Christian Academy (First Baptist Church Arcadia), 1006 North Brevard Avenue, Arcadia, Florida, 34266
