Luene B. Herndon, age 97, passed away Monday, March 29, 2010 in Arcadia. She was born November 13, 1912 in Pinetta, FL. and moved to Arcadia, FL. thirty-two years ago from Bushnell, FL. Luene was of the Methodist Faith and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Arcadia. She married Edward February 6, 1932 and became the wife of a Methodist Minister and served by her husband s side with all activities and responsibilities of the church. Luene was a wonderful grandmother, sister and friend. When her daughter passed away at a young age she lovingly became mother to her three grandchildren. She was a member of the Peace River Art Guild, the Women s Society of Christian Service, enjoyed sewing, gardening and cooking. Luene and Edward spent time together, collecting rocks that became beautiful gemstones. Another special passion and a talent of Luene s had been painting, she loved to work with oils and pastels. She is survived by three grandchildren, Valerie A. (Tommy) Wolfrey of Arcadia, FL., Sherri L. (Wallie) Albritton of Fort Myers, FL. and Alan H. (Imelda) Douglas of Cape Coral, FL.; and six great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Bass of Pinetta, FL. and two sisters, Helen Dale (E.D. Buck ) Keeling and Relma Coody both of Pinetta, FL.; numerous nieces and nephews. Luene was preceded in death by her husband; Rev. L. Edward Herndon; daughter, Betty Ann Douglas, parents, Robert C. and Inez C. Gaston-Bass, brothers; RC Bass and James E. Bum Bass; two sisters Eunice Hedges and Irma Corbett; and 2nd mother Nora Bass. A visitation will be held on Friday, April 2, 2010 from 10:00AM until 11:00AM at the chapel of Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, 50 N. Hillsborough Ave., Arcadia. Funeral Services will follow the visitation at 11:00AM at the chapel with Rev. James Wade, Jr. officiating. Graveside Services and Interment will be held Monday, April 5, 2010 at 11:00AM at Mount Horeb Church Cemetery in Pinetta, FL.
