Obituary

Lionel (Lee) S. Shapiro, age 91, passed away Tuesday, November 23, 2010 in Arcadia. He was born July 12, 1919 in Harlem, NY. He was formerly of Long Valley, NJ and West Palm Beach, FL. After retiring from construction at the age of 72, Lee graduated from the West Palm Beach Police Academy as the world s oldest rookie. He worked in Palm Beach as a police officer for several years before meeting and marrying his second wife, Inger, and moving with her to the west coast of Florida. There, in Arcadia, he had a third career as a retail store owner. He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Inger Shapiro; daughters Judy Ferrara (Donald) of Long Valley, NJ, Marilyn Wolff (Jack) of Sarasota, Fl; grandchildren Marc Wolff of Sarasota and Daniel Wolff of Tampa, James Ferrara and Sandra Van Glahn, both of Hackettstown, NJ and 9 great grandchildren. Shirley Shapiro, his wife of 50 years, preceded him in 1991. He was a loving father and husband and will be missed by all. Services and internment will take place in West Palm Beach, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice of Arcadia, 919 N. Arcadia Ave., Arcadia, FL. 34266.
