Linda Jean Barkley peacefully passed away on June 4, 2026, in Arcadia, Florida. Born on March 24, 1949, in Bronx, New York, Linda's life was a vibrant tapestry of love, dedication, and community spirit.
Linda’s educational journey saw her earn an associate's degree in business, a foundation she carried with grace throughout her varied roles and career. Linda dedicated over 30 years of her career to Sullivan Community College in Loch Sheldrake, New York, as a devoted educator, where she touched the lives of countless students. Beyond her professional role, she was a pillar of faith and guidance within her church community, serving as a Sunday school teacher and an elder at the Grahamsville Reformed Church for more than two decades. Her commitment extended further as an active member of the Grahamsville Ladies Auxiliary for nearly 29 years, and through her heartfelt volunteer work at the Daniel Pierce Library in Grahamsville, where she shared her passion for learning and connection with others.
Beyond her professional and community engagements, Linda embraced an array of hobbies that reflected her zest for life. Whether she was immersed in diamond painting, playing cards, reading books, swimming, or relishing the serenity of the ocean, Linda’s spirit was ever vibrant. She carried this joy into her active participation within the Arcadia Village community, enriching the lives of neighbors and friends.
Her personality radiated warmth and joy, effortlessly bringing happiness to her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Those moments gathered around the table, enjoying the meals she lovingly prepared, remain cherished memories for her loved ones and friends.
Linda’s legacy of kindness and laughter endures as a beacon for her family and friends, lasting reminders of a woman who was not only a mentor and friend but a source of endless love. She celebrated a lifetime marriage of 50 years with her beloved husband, Gene Francis Barkley. Together, they nurtured a family filled with love and pride.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Gene Francis Barkley, and her children: son Travis John Barkley, of Arcadia, Florida and daughter Linda, along with her son-in-law Gene of Grahamsville, New York along with their '32 foster children'. Linda’s family circle expands to include her brother, Ronald Keeperman of Stony Point, New York and her cherished companion of Emmie Lou, her cat, as well as grand-cats Fraido and Sassy, who brought her comfort and joy, along with her multiple neices and nephews. The memories of those who preceded her—her parents Monte Keeperman and Ruth Miller Keeperman, brothers Herbie Keeperman and nephew Ben Keeperman, and her goddaughter Joette Lucia Negron—live on in her heart and story.
