Laura Sloan Bretton, age 89, passed away November 15, 2011 in Arcadia, FL. Laura was born April 27, 1922 in Sebastian, FL. She moved with her family to Arcadia at the age of 5 years old. She was a bookkeeper for Christ Building Supply Co. and secretary for DeSoto County High School in early 1950 s. Laura enjoyed sewing, cross stitching, and making jewelry with polished stones. She was a graduate of DeSoto County High School, Class of 1940. Laura was an active member of First Christian Church of Arcadia. Survivors are her son, Steve (Kathy) Bretton, Arcadia, FL and daughter; Helen Kim (Victor) Milt, Boca Raton, FL, seven grandchildren, Nikki (Bubba) Smith, Arcadia, FL, Caylee (Daniel) Burning, Ocala, FL, Amber Milt, New York, NY, Adam Milt, Astoria, NY, Amanda Milt Apa, Schenectady, NY, Ashleen (Jorge) Hernandez, Sebring, FL, Amelia Robbins, Arcadia, FL, six great grandchildren, Seth Hernandez, Tyler and Shane Smith, Kaitlyn Durning, Daniel Durning, and Caydan Durning. Laura is preceded in death by her beloved husband Jack Bretton, March 19, 2001, two brothers, Paul and Milton Sloan and sister, Olive Odom. Visitation will be conducted from 10:00AM until 11:00AM, Friday, November 18, 2011 at First Christian Church. Funeral services will be at 11:00AM with Reverend Ron York officiating.
