Obituary

On Saturday November 5, 2022, Juanita Falany Gibbs, loving mother and grandmother passed away at the age of 85.

Juanita was born on August 26, 1937, in Arcadia, Florida to Joseph Francis Falany and Susie (Polk) Falany.  She was one of six siblings and attended Desoto County High School.

On December 6, 1953, she married her husband, Winfred Earl Gibbs, at the Ft. Ogden Baptist Church. They had two children, W. Keith Gibbs and Vicki G. Richmond.

While raising her children, Juanita began a career in nursing at St. Joseph's hospital in Port Charlotte, Florida.

In the mid 1960's, she moved with her husband and children to Clewiston, Florida when they became owners of the Clewiston Golf Course Pro Shop. While her husband managed the golf course, Juanita worked in the Pro Shop and developed a love for the game of golf. She made many good friends, participated in various tournaments and won numerous trophies in her time there.

In 1982, after her husband's retirement, Juanita moved back to Arcadia, Florida. She went to work at a local jewelry store and discovered she was a natural salesperson. Her clever wit, good humor and outgoing personality kept many loyal customers returning time and again over the years.

Juanita was an avid gardener, growing fresh fruits and vegetables that she loved to enjoy with family and friends. She was the chairperson for the Ft. Ogden May Day Picnic for many years and she enjoyed learning and sharing about the rich history of her community.

Juanita appreciated the simpler things in life like camping, fishing, playing the piano, singing, cooking and family gatherings, which were the most important to her.

She is survived by her daughter, Vicki G. Richmond. Her granddaughters, Kristy Pruitt (Anthony) and Sonya Richmond (Jose). Her brother Michael Falany (Janice) and sister Suzanne Croft. Her great granddaughters, Jamey Green (Andrew) and Lorrie Pruitt (Ricky). Her great-great grandchildren, Abigail, Alex, Kason and Waylyn as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, her son, and her siblings, Joe, June and infant sister.

A memorial service for Juanita will be planned at a later date.
