Joseph Brooke Diamond, age 89, passed away January 10, 2011 in Arcadia, Fl. Brooke was born October 13, 1921 in Miami, FL, moving to Arcadia in 1958. He retired from G. Pearce Wood Memorial Hospital after 30 years of faithful service as the supervisor of the horticulture and grounds management. He was also retired from the DeSoto County Sheriff s Dept. where he served as a Bailiff for the DeSoto Co. court system. Brooke was very civil minded. He was a 50 year member of the Peace River Masonic Lodge #66, the Shiners and Scottish Rites. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp and remained a member of the 8TH Army- Air Corp alumni. He was also a member of the Florida Sheriff s Association. Brooke enjoyed wood carving, yard work, and working with the youth thru the Shiners Assoc. Brooke is survived by a son Nicholas Nick (Charlena) Diamond, Arcadia, Fl. , a daughter; April Hodges, also of Arcadia, Fl, a sister Mary Elizabeth Diamond, Miami, FL., four grandchildren; Dennis Robert Diamond, Michaela Blosser, Ericka Diamond, and Aiden Diamond. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Mona Diamond, in 2008, his parents Elliott and Louise Diamond, and brother Ben Diamond . Visitation will be conducted from 6:00PM until 8:00PM Thursday, January 13, 2011 at Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home chapel, 50 No. Hillsborough Avenue, Arcadia, FL. Funeral services will be at 10:00AM Friday, January 14, 2011 at St. Edmunds Episcopal Church, Arcadia, FL with Father Jim Williamson officiating. Graveside Masonic Rites, rendered by the Peace River Masonic Lodge #66 and military honors to be rendered by the DeSoto Veterans Honor Guard. Burial will follow in Joshua Creek Cemetery.
