John Martin Skinner, age 72, passed away Sunday September 11, 2011 in Port Charlotte, FL. He was born May 2, 1939 in Palm Harbor, FL. John was a lifelong resident of DeSoto County. John was loving, hardworking husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother and will be missed by his family very much. In his spare time John enjoyed fishing and hunting with family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Bertie Ann (Campbell) Skinner of Arcadia, FL.; three daughters Debra A. Horton (Roy) of Bradenton, FL., Valerie L. (Monte) Carter of Ona, FL. And Gwendolyne G. (Marlon) Long of Jacksonville, NC; one son James M. Skinner of Arcadia, FL; one brother William Burl Skinner of TN; three grandchildren, Jessica Cobb (Larry), Dalton, and Ashleigh and four great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents William Franklin and Sally E. Champion Skinner and one sister Daisy Laverne Jackson. Graveside services will be held privately on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Arcadia, FL.
