John F. Porch, age 87, of Arcadia, Fl. passed away October 18, 2008 in Arcadia. John was born Sept. 19, 1921 in Alexander City, Al. moving to Arcadia in the early 1960 s from California. After high school, John worked for Russell Manufacturing Co. during World War II, John enlisted in the Army Air Force, serving as a Staff Sergeant in the European Theatre. As a ball turret gunner on a B17 Later, he went to California, where he worked for Convair in San Diego. Returning to Fl., he came to Arcadia, where he worked for a awhile for his cousin A. C. Polk at Babcock Furniture Store. John started working for the U. S. Post Office shortly thereafter and retired as a postal clerk from the Postal service after 17 years of faithful service. John was a very active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Arcadia, having served on a number of committees. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 50 years. Janis Zeigler Porch. Survivors are his beloved wife, Janis Porch, Arcadia, four nieces, Nancy (Ralph) Chabot, Orlando, Fl., Martha Scott, Alexander City, Al., Patricia (Stanley) Juds, Largo, Fl., and Gwen(Frank) Pearce, Bossier City, La., One nephew, Ed (Jeanne) Jordan, Jacksonville, Al. John is preceded in death by: two sisters, Miriam Jordan and Helen Smith, two brothers, Ralph D. Porch and Charles T. Porch. Visitation will be held from 6:00PM until 8:00PM Tuesday, October 21, 2008 from Ponger-Kays-Grady Chapel, 50 No. Hillsborough Ave., Arcadia, Fl. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00am Wednesday; Oct. 22, 2008 at the Ponger-Kays-Grady Chapel with Rev. Jim Wade officiating. Burial will be in the Sarasota National Cemetery, Sarasota, Fl. at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John s memory to Trinity United Methodist Church Building Fund, 304 W.
