Joe Skitka, Age 92, of Zolfo Springs, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 2nd.

Joe was born on August 15, 1929, in Wauchula, Florida to Ukrainian natives, Tedor & Tedora Skitka.  Joe went to the Popash School until 8th grade then graduated from Hardee High in 1947.  After graduation, he continued to work on the family farm until he was drafted to the United states Army.  Joe served in the 504th Military Police Battalion from October 1952 - October 1954, then U.S. Army Reserves until 1960.

Following active military service, Joe married the love of his life - Jewel Stokes Skitka in 1956 and together they had 4 children.  He was committed to his lifelong career in farming, specializing in citrus and cattle.  His hobbies included growing and nurturing his crops.  large farm machinery mechanics, checking on his beloved cows, fishing, Pioneer Park days, treasure hunting at yard sales and auctions, and spending time with family.

Joe was preceded in death by his wife Jewel Skitka, son Jobie Skitka, father Tedor Skitka, mother Tedora Skitka, grandson Caleb Skitka, and siblings Andrew Skitka, Steve Skitka, Mary George, Stella Harper, Anna Brown, Helen Gaskill, Rose Johnson, Jewel Keen and Martha Douglas.

He is survived by his daughter, Pamela Skitka Goodwin (spouse, Charles), sons Danny Skitka and Charles Skitka, 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at New Hope Baptist Church on Wednesday, February 9th.  Visitation will be from 10-11am followed by the celebration of life service and burial.
