Joanne Whidden Garner, age 75, passed away Thursday, January 13, 2011. She was born September 15, 1935 in Charlotte Harbor, FL the daughter of James E. and Josephine Taylor Whidden. Her lineage was of a Charlotte County pioneer family. Joanne met the love of her life, Felton Garner, married him in 1955 and moved to Arcadia where she remained living. Joanne was of the protestant faith. Joanne graduated valedictorian of Charlotte High School in 1953. After graduating high school she worked for Wotitzky & Wotitzky Abstract. Joanne enjoyed fishing, boating, hunting and spending time with her family at their lake house in Lake Placid. She is survived by her loving husband of almost 56 years Felton Garner of Arcadia, one daughter Cheryl G. (James) Stewart of Arcadia, FL, one brother Bucky (Ginger) Whidden of Punta Gorda, Fl., one grandson Christopher Stewart of Arcadia, Fl. and several nieces and nephews. Joanne was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Jimmy Whidden. A visitation will be held Monday, January 17, 2011 from 6:00PM until 8:00PM at the chapel of Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, 50 N. Hillsborough Ave., Arcadia. Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at 2:00PM at the chapel of the funeral home with Dr. Ted Land officiating. Burial will follow at Owens Cemetery, Arcadia.
