Obituary

James L. Skinner, Sr., 62, of Naples, FL., formerly of Arcadia, FL. went home to be with the Lord Monday, April 5, 2010. He served for 12 years in the Florida National Guard; James retired as Market Manager from Publix in 1989. While living in Arcadia, he was a Deacon at First Baptist Church of Arcadia, after moving to Naples, he and his wife became founding and active members of Naples Baptist Temple. Following a long battle with heart disease, Lamar received a heart transplant at Tampa General Hospital in September 2006. He was always grateful for the sacrificial gift of life from his donor. James is survived by his wife of 43 years, Raynae Sardi Skinner; sons, Lamar (Danna) Skinner, Jr. and Robert L. Skinner; daughter, Stephani (Wes) Skinner; grandchildren Tiffany, Josh, Brandon, Haleigh, Shane and Jessica; three brothers, Bob (Patti) Skinner of Charleston, Sc, Grady (Janet) and Carl (Tami) Skinner of Arcadia; two sisters, Willa May Jeffries of Bartow, FL and Edith Mercer of Arcadia; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Leroy Skinner and Madeline Skinner Hollingsworth. Family will receive friend s from6:00PM to 9:00PM, Friday, April 9, 2010 at the chapel of Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, 50 N. Hillsborough Ave., Arcadia. Funeral services will be at 1:00PM, Saturday, April 10, 2010 at First Baptist Church, 1006 N. Brevard Ave., Arcadia with the Pastor I.E. McGowan, officiating. Burial will follow at Joshua Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions are made to the mission fund of the Naples Baptist Temple, 5860 Autumn Oaks Lane, Naples, FL. 34119; or Heart Transplant Services, Tampa General Hospital, PO Box 1289, Tampa, FL. 33601.
