James Lewis Skeens, age 62, was called home to be with the Lord Thursday, March 26, 2009, in Sebring, Fl. He was born December 28, 1946 in Baltimore, MD. James had lived in the Sebring community for the past 5 years, moving from W. Palm Beach, Fl. James worked in the construction industry his entire life; however he did not consider it work. He loved building projects and was hands on everything he did. He was an avid Univ. of West Virginia Mountaineers fan, and a football trivia buff. James loved all types of music. James served our country for six years in the U.S. Navy and served three tours of duty in Vietnam. James was an avid boxing fan. He boxed while in the Navy and won championship titles for his efforts. James biggest passion was the love for his family and for the Lord. He was a member of Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ. Survivors include his loving wife Sheryl Sherry L. Wilson-Skeens of Sebring, Fl., four sons, Jim Skeens of Princeton, WV, Sean and Brandon Skeens of Lake Placid, Fl and Nathan Wilson of Sebring, Fl., two daughters Cara and Cristen Skeens of W. Palm Beach, Fl., one sister, Linda Becker of Baltimore, Md., seven grand children and one great-grandchild. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ, 205 S. Luther Ave., Arcadia, Fl. with the Rev. Peter Kennedy officiating. Inurnment will follow at Owns Cemetery, Mt. Ephraim Baptist Church with the DeSoto County Honor Guard presenting. In lieu of flowers the family would like donations in James s name made to the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ Building Fund, sent to address above.
