James H. Jim Ervin, age 78, Port Charlotte, Fl. and formerly of Arcadia, passed away, June 13, 2009 in Port Charlotte Fl. Jim was born Oct. 29, 1930 in Gary, Indiana moving to Port Charlotte four years ago from Arcadia, Fl. Jim retired from the G. Pearce Wood Memorial Hospital as a social worker supervisor. He had attended Lincoln Christian College, Lincoln, Ill prior to transferring to Olivet University, Bourbonnais, IL. in 1965. He was awarded a Bachelor s degree in Social Work from Olivet Nazarene University, Bourbonnais, IL. class of 1967. Jim loved to sing. He was called upon to sing in church and on various other occasions by special request. He would sing to himself whenever he wasn t feeling very well and found that singing helped to sooth his aches and pains. He enjoyed fishing, carpentry and wood working. He was a member of First Christian Church, Arcadia, Fl., where he had served as a deacon. Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Marjorie, Port Charlotte, a son Michael Allen (Fumiko) Ervin, Niceville, Fl., two daughters; Linda Marie Ervin, Port Charlotte, Fl. and Marcia Lynn Ervin, Chebanse, Il., a sister Edith M. Ervin, Bradley, IL., two grand children and four great grandchildren. A celebration of Jim s life will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2009 - 3:00PM at River Commons Senior Living Facility, Port Charlotte, Fl. with Chaplain Charles Murphy officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Arcadia, Fl. at a later date.
