Obituary

James Everette Brantley, 77, of Arcadia, Florida, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on December 30, 2024.

Born on August 27, 1947, in Arcadia, Florida, to Curtis James Brantley and Hazel (Hall) Brantley.

James dedicated his life to his family and community. James retired as Correctional Officer Lieutenant from the State of Florida after a 30-year career with the Department of Corrections at DeSoto Correctional Institution. James graduated from DeSoto High School Class of 1966 and was a Bulldog. He loved football and baseball, but baseball was his passion.

He was a passionate supporter of youth sports, coaching and volunteering for many years throughout his lifetime, both baseball and football. He also coached baseball for DeSoto High School, helping lead the team to a district championship.

James was a devoted family man. He is survived by his loving wife, Gloria Ann (Evans) Brantley; his sons, Chris (Crystal) Brantley of Punta Gorda, Florida, and Terry Brantley of Arcadia, Florida; and his cherished grandchildren, Jacob (son of Terry), Brody, and Berkley (son and daughter of Chris and Crystal).

James was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in 2013 and fought bravely against the disease for over a decade. Despite the challenges, he cherished every moment with his family, especially attending his grandchildren's sporting events, which brought him immense joy.

James was a man of strong character, integrity, and loyalty. He was known for his infectious grin, his witty jokes, and his unwavering support for his loved ones. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and most especially his family.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 11am at the chapel of Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, 50 N. Hillsborough Ave., Arcadia.
