Obituary

James Samuel "Monkey" Brantley, age 59, went to be with the Lord the evening of February 6, 2025. He was born on November 14, 1965 in Arcadia, FL to Samuel Woodrow Brantley and the late Laura Jean Tipton. Monk was a lifetime resident of our community, and member of N. Hillsborough Baptist Church.

Monk graduated from Desoto High School, Class of 1983. After graduation he pursued his career in ranching and he wore the title of Ranch Manager at Peach River Ranch, Ben Hill Griffin. Monk was a strong man, but not only was he that, he was also a man of many principles, a dedicated employee to his work, and most of all a man who loved his family above all else and a man of God who loved his Lord and Savior. He enjoyed horseback riding, hunting, fishing, and travel. Monk was the most loving husband, father, son, brother, grandfather and friend that he could be and he will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his loving wife Terri Erwin Brantley of Zolfo Springs, FL., his four children Brittany (Derek) Rose, Shawn(Bridget) Brantley, Tiffany McClelland & Mandy Montgomery, father Samuel (Verda) Brantley,  siblings Melissa (Steve) Fink, Tina (Duane) Needham, Terry Carlton, Wade Sterling Carlton, Christopher Brantley, & Richard (Stacey) Barringer, and his five grandchildren, Dawson Rose,  Brody Brantley, Lexi Brantley, Braylon Brantley, and Cesar Rodriquez along with his niece Kaylen Barringer, and his nephew Preston Barringer. Also, nieces Nessandria, Jeannie, Cassie, Stephanie, Laura, Brandi and nephew Ty.

Monk was preceded in death by his mother Laura Jean Tipton Carlton, his sister Phaedra Gleaton, his stepfather Sonny Carlton and his grandparents George V. & Anna L. Tipto & Braford & Katie Holloway.

A visitation of family and friends will be held on Friday, February 14, 2025 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Chapel of Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Homes, 50 N. Hillsborough Ave., Arcadia

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 2:00pm at Arcadia Church of God, 1423 NE Oak St., Arcadia with Rev. Ellis Cross of N. Hillsborough Baptist Church officating. Burial will follow at Joshua Creek Cemetery, Arcadia.
