Jack Robert Shore, age 85, was called to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 in Arcadia surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 28, 1923 in Hudson, IN, moving to our community 37 years ago. He was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Arcadia where he spent 37 glorious years singing in the choir. Jack retired from U.S. Steel after 10 years of service, State of Florida as an Agriculture Inspector and most recently was a crossing guard for the DeSoto County Sheriffs Dept. Jack served our Country during WWII in the U.S. Army. He was former editor of Florida Elks News, F.A.&M. 614, Ashley, IN.,B.P.O.E 1524, Arcadia, which he was past District Deputy & Past State Chaplain, DeSoto Co. Historical Society and past board member of Arcadia Village. In Jack s spare time he enjoyed playing golf with his friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Clel Shore of Arcadia, FL, three sons, David R. Shore, Venice, FL., Tim (Pat) Backer and Tod (Joyce) Backer both of Arcadia, Fl., three daughters, Sandy (Tom) Thawley of Reistertown, MD, Joan Shore (Ken) Hastings of Bartow, FL., and Kim Shore (Tony) Rushton of Pompano Beach, Fl., one brother Quentin (Ernestine) Shore of Plainfield, IN, two sisters Dorothy Kay (Gordon) Bard of Hot Springs Village, AK and Judy (Don) Kanaga of Eureka, IL., sixteen grand children, nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Ted Backer and parents John M. & Dorothy Shore. A memorial service and celebration of life will be Saturday, June 20, 2009 at 11:00AM at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 304 W. Oak Street, Arcadia, FL. with Rev. Jim Wade officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Jack s name to Trinity United Methodist Church at the address above.
