Hugh E. Douglas, age 70, passed away, Oct. 14, 2008 in Arcadia, Fl. He was born in Baguio, Luzon Island, Philippines, Nov. 24, 1937, moving to Arcadia 37 years ago. Hugh was a past president of Production Credit Association, retiring after 20 years of faithful service. Hugh was an honorably discharged veteran of the U. S. Army. As a child, during WWII, he was in a Japanese concentration camp for three yrs.in the Philippines. He was a graduate of University of Florida class of 1960 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Economics. He was an educator, teaching for the State of Florida Department of Corrections. Hugh enjoyed reading, listening to music, gardening, and family activities. He was an avid Florida Gator fan and he possessed a great sense of humor. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Arcadia, Fl. Survivors are one son, Alan (Imelda) Douglas, Cape Coral, Fl. and two daughters, Sherri (Wallace) Albritton, Ft. Myers, Fl. and Valerie (William Tommy ) Wolfrey, Arcadia, Fl. and six grandchildren. He leaves a sister Dorothy Whittle, Gainesville, Fl, two nieces and two nephews. Hugh is preceded in death by his beloved wife Betty Ann Herndon Douglas in 1992, and his parents Clayton O. and Mary E. Douglas. A memorial service will be planned at a later date.
