Obituary

Howard Luis Day, age 67, passed away Sunday morning on August 27, 2023, in Arcadia, Florida. He was born on February 17, 1956, in Hialeah, Florida to William Howard Sanford Day, and Leila Martinez. Howard passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Howard is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Laura Day and his sons Mack (Danielle) Day of Punta Gorda, John (Chelsea) Day of Arcadia, Florida. His sister Debbie Derrico (sons Robbie and Joey), from Miami, Florida. His grandchildren Elizabeth, John Waylon, Adalyn, and Evelyn along with his very close friends Jorge (Alina) and son Georgie Aguilar.

Howard was a lineman for FPL for 36 years and a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. In his career, he was a lineman, highline crew member, troublemen, and prior to retirement, a supervisor. During his career, he was on System Council U-4 IBEW safety committees where he helped develop many trainings videos that benefited safe practices and procedures that was implemented throughout the FPL system, such as pole top rescues. He also participated in many hurricane line restorations throughout the state. He was very proud of both of his sons who followed in his footsteps.

Once he retired, he became an avid fisherman, camper, and air boater, (along with his wife), and a fixer upper. He especially enjoyed building airboats from scratch, and riding with his boys and friends. His common sense in airboat mechanics rescued many air boaters in the Everglades and Lake Kissimmee. He was especially well known for his singing and guitar playing, and his ability to improvise and make up songs about anyone who sat around our campfires. He also loved making personalized knives for his friends.

But his biggest accomplishment and love was his family. He enjoyed every aspect of being a husband, father, and grandfather. He made sure he introduced his family to our Lord and savior Jesus Christ and reminded them to always believe in the love of our savior. Howard's relationship with his grandchildren was unique. He was constantly fixing bikes, putting together toys bought by his wife, teaching them to fish, and showing them what it means to be a good person. He displayed what the love of a grandfather could be. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend and will be greatly missed.

A celebration of life will be planned for a later date.
