Hazel H. Brantley, 79, of Arcadia, Fl. passed away Friday, Nov. 7, 2008. She was born June 29, 1929 in Myakka City, Fl. Hazel had lived in Arcadia since 1944, moving from Myakka City. She retired from the DeSoto County Board of Education, where she had worked in the food service department at West Elementary School for 18 years. Hazel also had been a poll worker (verifying voter registration) during election times, worked with the W.E.M. Preschool Ministry of First Baptist Church of Arcadia, as a bookkeeper for the family businesses, and as a homemaker. Hazel s greatest passion was her grandchildren. She was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church for 28 years, and attended First Baptist Church of Arcadia with her family. She is survived by her son James E. (Gloria) Brantley; grandson Terry L. (Bonnie) Brantley; great grandson Jacob R. Brantley; grandson Christopher J. (Crystal) Brantley; great grandson Brody J. Brantley; a brother Archie (Mary) Nelson; seven nieces and nephews. Hazel was preceded in death be her beloved husband of 64 years, Curtis J. CJ Brantley who passed away Nov. 27, 2000; parents Willie nelson and Josephine Hall Nelson.; brothers, Everete, Alton, and Alvie Hall all of Myakka City. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008 at Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home chapel, 50 No. Hillsborough Ave., Arcadia, Fl. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008 at the chapel with the Rev. Richard Englert officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
