Doyle Wesley Bryan age 86 of Bowling Green passed away at his home on Wednesday, August 13, 2014. He was born June 6, 1928 in Bowling Green and was a lifelong resident. Doyle was in the grocery business for many years including owning Doyle s Meat Market then pursuing his lifelong passion of law enforcement for 20 years, occupying the position of Chief of Police of Bowling Green then moving on to Sheriff of Hardee County for three terms from 1981 to 1993 ending in his retirement. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Bowling Green. Doyle enjoyed hunting, fishing and cooking as well as spending time with family and friends, sharing with them the adventures of his life. He was an Honorary member of the Hardee County Rotary Club and the Florida Sheriff s Association. Doyle was preceded in death by his parents F.L. and Ella Williams Bryan; his first wife Kathryn Thomas Bryan; four brothers Francis, Elmo Louis and Edward Bryan; two sisters Clemmie Judah and Oveda Malone. His is survived by his beloved wife Jean Lessley Bryan of Bowling Green, one son Derrel (Marci) Bryan of Lake Placid; three daughters Shuree (Gregg) Rawls of Bowling Green, Denice (Mike) Heine of Zolfo Springs, Karen (Ricky) Grice of Zebulon, GA; two step-daughters Susan (Chuck) Lontine of Denver, CO. , Deborah (Jerry) Haynes of Parrish; one sister Ella Mae Carlton of Zolfo Springs: Eight grandchildren, Eighteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 6:00PM-8:00PM Friday, August 15, 2014 at Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home in Wauchula. Services will be 10:00AM Saturday, August 15, 2014 at First United Methodist Church of Bowling Green with Rev. Amy Harper and Rev. Steve Polk officiating. Interment will follow at Bowling Green Cemetery with the Sheriff s Department rendering Honors.
