Edward Eddie S. Schontag Sr., 84, died on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012. Born in Wauchula on July 6, 1927, Eddie was the only son of five children of Stanley and Teresa Schontag. Eddie served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was married to his wife Harriet Schontag in 1947. He was active in the agricultural industry. He farmed citrus and cattle for over 64 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Lillie Ingles, Stella Johns and Helen Swartz; and his wife Harriet Schontag. He is survived by his sister Francis Conner and husband Jim; three children, Stanley Schontag Jr. and wife Joan of Lake Wales; Cindy Scott of Wauchula, and Joanne Buckhanan and husband Thomas of Wauchula; dear companion and friend Betty Howze of Wauchula; eight grandchildren, Steven Schontag of Bowling Green, Laren Chester and husband West of Wauchula, Keith Watson of Louisiana, Kevin Watson and wife Tonya of Louisiana, Susan Keene and husband Ron of Punta Gorda, Maranda Earl and husband Clifford of Leigh High Acres, Amber Davis of Clewiston, and Christopher Buckhanan of Wauchula; and 16 great-grandchildren, Stevie Brook, Ellieott Grace, Emmalyn Rae, Korey, Jarrett, Gannon, Kyle, Travis, Abigail, Kelly, Lyndsey, Aimee, Jonathan, Kyliegh, Kailynn and Kendra. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 05, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Chapel of Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home. Services will be Friday January 06, 2012 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Wauchula with Pastor Danielle Upton and Marcus Shackelford officiating. Interment follows in New Hope Cemetery.
